Everything Whale Be All Right Bar
On Friday, June 12th, 2021 lobster diver and Provincetown native Michael Packard found himself inside the mouth of a humpback whale off the coast of Provincetown. Packard was on the ocean floor searching for lobsters when the whale dove down and engulfed him in his mouth. Chequessett Chocolate co-founder Josiah Mayo was driving the boat at the time, following the scuba bubbles while searching for his fishing partner and fearing the worst. Suddenly the whale erupted from the ocean, propelling Packard into the air.
A bizarrely improbable incident, Packard’s story captivated the global news cycle and was featured everywhere from CNN to The New York Times. Michael and Josiah even told their story on Jimmy Kimmel Live, recounting their saga to millions of enthralled viewers. To honor this unforgettable event, we have concocted a limited-edition bar featuring candied pineapple and Cuddy Provisions’ homemade, small-batch chili crisp. This locally made product is a spicy, savory condiment made with shallots, garlic, Sichuan, and a blend of aromatic spices. A perfectly balanced blend of whimsical ingredients, we believe this bar encapsulates Packard and Mayo’s remarkable encounter.
Local outer Cape artist Amy Kandell of Ouroboros Gallery designed the sticker for this bar, infusing color, whimsy, and cetacean spirit into our creation. A small quantity of prints, signed by the artist, are available at our North Truro café.
