Tumaco Nariño Bar
Sourced from the Southern Pacific Coast of Colombia, the Tumaco Nariño bar boasts rich flavors from beans grown with exemplary labor and sustainability practices. Although the region is naturally abundant with cacao, Tumaco has experienced years of political conflict and narcotics violence, making organized trade and production incredibly challenging. When Colombia de Cacao—a local sourcing company—first explored the region, they saw ample opportunity for local development. Now the community cooperatively produces superbly high-quality cacao beans with complex flavor profiles, including notes of whiskey, caramel, and molasses.
Grown from October to December, these cacao beans are hand sorted and fermented in wooden boxes at an average altitude of 20 feet. The cacao plants are intercropped with timber, fruit trees, corn, and beans to preserve Tumaco’s vibrant biodiversity.
Conscious labor practices, emphasis on sustaining the region’s biodiversity, and attention to flavor—each Tumaco Nariño bar is a testament to exemplary chocolate-making and cacao agriculture.
